...Be happy!

Reggae and its origin

Reggae is an original musical genre of Jamaica, essentially descendant from Ska developed in the early sixties. Ska immediately got enormous popularity in Jamaica. The culmination of the Ska period was in 1962, when Jamaica gained independence being liberated from British colonialism, allowing this new music to become the mean to express optimism and the hope for a better life of the Jamaican people. Among the most important Ska artists who brought the genre to the success we can mention Derrick Morgan, Laurel Aitken, Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, and also a young Bob Marley.
This came as music to dance, being stimulating, fast and energetic. Over the years this music, thanks to various record companies and Jamaican recording studios, spread slowly across the world. In the United States, "Red Red Wine" by Neil Diamond (1967) was the first reggae hit recorded by a pop musician. Shortly after, "Hold Me Tight" by Johnny Nash (1968) finally dragged the reggae charts in. In the late '70s reggae began to revolutionize adopting other names, to vary the type of messages and bases, as roots reggae, political reggae, dub, dj style, lovers rock, reggae pop, dancehall and reggamuffin.

One of the most beautiful songs: Don't worry, be happy!

In September 1988, the single “Don’t worry, be happy” sung by Bobby McFerrin became the first cappella song to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and hold that position for two weeks. In the UK charts, the song reached the second position after five weeks. The following year, during the Grammy Awards ceremony, “Don’t worry, be happy” won some awards such as "Song of the Year", "Album of the Year" and "Best Pop" male performance. The song title is a quote from a famous phrase of Meher Baba.

This is the lyrics:

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy.
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy.
Don't worry, be happy now.

CHORUS:
Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy.
Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy.

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy.
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy.

CHORUS:
(Look at me -- I'm happy. Don't worry, be happy.
Here I give you my phone number. When you worry, call me,
I make you happy. Don't worry, be happy.)

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
Don't worry, be happy.
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
Don't worry, be happy.

CHORUS:
(Don't worry, don't worry, don't do it.
Be happy. Put a smile on your face.
Don't bring everybody down.
Don't worry. It will soon pass, whatever it is.
Don't worry, be happy.

I'm not worried, I'm happy...

An Italian group in the new world of reggae: The Mellow Mood

The Mellow Mood are an Italian reggae group founded in Pordenone in 2005. The group was formed in San Vito al Tagliamento in about 2004. They recorded their first EP in 2006. In 2008 they won the Italian Wave selections for the Friuli Venezia Giulia and the following year they won the Italian Reggae Contest sponsored by Rototom Sunsplash and were third in the European Final Contest. Their debut was officially in 2009, when they come out with an album called "Move!". Mixed by who later became their sound architect and dubmaster, Paul Baldini. The band from Pordenone, headed by the twins Jacob and LO Garzia, had Federico Mazzolo (also known for his IOSHI electronic project) on drums, Enrico Bernardini on keyboards, Giulio Frausin (who now spends his time between Mellow Mood and the acoustic folk Sleeping Tree) on bass, Stefano and Roberto Salmaso Dazzan on the horn sections. The two following years were characterized by live performances and constant artistic growth. After a change in the line-up (Buresta replaced Filippo Bernardini on keyboards), the Mellow Mood went in a recorording studio with Baldini to produce "Well Well Well", which will be released later in May 2012 for the international section of the label Storm Records. In the second half of 2013 they released two singles, "Dig Dig Dig" and "Extra Love" (the latter featuring with reggae star Tanya Stephens). "Twinz" came out in June 2014, with Baldini production as well.

A song that always puts you in a good mood... "Dig, dig, dig!"
